    SoftPro Select System Requirements

    SoftPro Select is a multi-tiered application consisting of:

    • SoftPro Select NT Services, comprised of the Select Server & Hosting Service, which are managed by the Select Administrative Console and Service.
    • A Database Server that runs on Microsoft SQL Server on Windows.
    • The Select Client which is the production application.

    The requirements below are the minimum resources required to run our applications. Allocating more memory, processing, and disk input/output will improve software performance, especially when working with multiple files or applications simultaneously. Insufficient resources may lead to a decrease in performance.

    These resources should be allotted in addition to the resource requirements of your operating system and other applications running on the machine(s) that will run our components. These requirements are subject to change without notice.

    SoftPro Select Client - Desktop

     

    Operating System

    • Windows 10 (32 or 64-bit)
    • Windows 11 (64-bit only)

     

    Ram

    Recommended:

    • 32-bit: 12GB
    • 64-bit: 12GB

     

    Processor

    Intel or AMD chipset required.
    Minimum: Dual Core
    Recommended: Quad Core
     

    Disk Space

    Minimum: 1GB Free Disk Space (for installation)
     

    Display

    Minimum: 1366x768 high-color (16-bit)

    • Higher resolutions are recommended for optimal display.
    • Large text display (125%) is not supported.

    SoftPro Select Client - Terminal/Citrix Server

     

    Operating System

    • Windows Server 2016 (64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2019 (64-bit)

     

    Ram

    Recommended: 24GB or greater
    Note: You may need more server memory if you are utilizing a large amount of custom integration packages.
     

    Processor

    Recommended: Dual Quad Core
     

    Disk Space

    Recommended: 72GB of Free Disk Space, RAID 1 or 5
     

    Display

    Minimum: 1366x768 high-color (16-bit)
     

    Note

    With this configuration, customers can expect to support 35 concurrent users. This number will vary with each organization, as additional applications (such as Microsoft Office application) being run on the same hardware will lower the number of supported users per Terminal Server.

    SoftPro Select Services - Mid-Tier Server

     

    Operating System

    • Windows Server 2016 (64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2019 (64-bit)

     

    Ram

    Recommended: 24GB
    Note: You may need more server memory if you are utilizing a large amount of custom integration packages.
     

    Processor

    Intel or AMD chipset required.
    These recommendations assume that each order will be saved 45 times:

    • < 2k new orders/month: Dual Core
    • 2k-4k new orders/month: Quad Core
    • 4k-8k new orders/month 2 Quad Core Servers (recommended) or 1 Dual Quad Core
    • 8k-16k new orders/month 2 Dual Quad Core Servers
    • > 16k new orders/month: 1 Core for every 1,000 new orders/month

     

    Disk Space

    Recommended: 1GB Free Disk Space (for Installation)

    SoftPro Select - Database Server

     

    Database Server

    Note: Microsoft SQL Server should not be installed on an Active Directory Domain Controller. Microsoft recommends against this configuration for security and performance considerations. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2032911
    Microsoft SQL Server on Linux is NOT supported.

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 SP3
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2017
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2019 (only supported on Select versions 4.3.39 or higher)
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2022 (only supported on Select versions 4.3.66 or higher)

     

    Ram

    Recommended: 24GB or greater
    Note: You may need more server memory if you are utilizing a large amount of custom integration packages.
     

    Processor

    Minimum: Dual Core
    Recommended: Quad Core
     

    Disk Space

    Recommended: 2GB free disk space, for installation, plus appropriate disk space for your database.
     

    Note

    All database communication is handled through a single service account used by the mid-tier server.
    End users do not communicate directly with the database.
    CPU, RAM and disk space requirements are minimums only. As your business grows, you should plan to increase these resources.

    • The average order size is 3MB and document storage is highly variable
    • Disk I/O (throughput) is critical to overall performance. Multiple and faster drives will provide higher throughput and performance.

    Optional Components

    • The client machine will need to have Internet access to view the Start Page.
    • Crystal Reports XI, Standard Edition or higher, is necessary to create custom reports.
    • Microsoft Word 2016, 2019, or 365 are necessary to create custom ReadyDocs.

     

    Technical Notes

    • Database server can be installed on the same machine as the SoftPro Select Services, but this is not recommended for operations with greater than 25 users. A Windows domain is required if the database server is located on a separate machine.
    • SoftPro highly recommends following Microsoft SQL Server best practices for capacity planning, configuration, and deployment of your SQL Server. Microsoft provides ten best practices for SQL Server storage: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc966534.aspx. Although this article was originally published for an older version of SQL Server, these recommendations still apply to newer versions. We also recommend following SQL Server best practices provided by your server, storage, and virtualization vendors.

    • Developers may install all three tiers on a single development machine which meets the Select Client Desktop requirements.
    • Data “at rest” can be encrypted using SQL Server’s Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) feature. This feature is available in SQL Server 2016 SP3, 2017, 2019, 2022 Enterprise or SQL Server 2019 and 2022 Standard.
    • The .NET Framework 4.8 will be required and installed for Select versions 4.3.45 or higher.
